Edwin Alexander Francis is born on the 12th of April 1957 in Aldershot, England;
from 1963-69 he went to Wellingborough School, Northants,
he celebrates his “Abitur” (A-level equivalent) at the Wilhelm Gymnasium, Hamburg, Germany in 1976 already contemporarily occupied working on part-time jobs as: 2nd assistant director & production assistant for a multitude of Hamburg-based commercial film productions on photoshoots & advertising campaigns on location and in studio(building the sets at night); leaves Hamburg and goes to Cologne (Köln) to join his father > works @ the B.F.B.S (British Forces Broadcasting Service) for a while and then moves on to study History of Art @ Karl Franzens Universität, Graz, Austria from ’76-’78 followed – as from ’78 - by studies at the Dramatic @ Fine Arts Academy, Graz delivering a Thesis in > 1982, summa cum laudae, in stage & costume design; conferred the title of “magister artium”, he then works as assistant light designer and assistant stage designer @ the Graz Opera House. Awarded a post-graduate scholarship in Dramatic Arts & Sciences. * Member of the Graz Schauspielhaus theatre ensemble; works as freelance assistant producer, producer and director-designer @ the “steirischer herbst” avant-garde festival Graz from 1977-83; collaborates with world-famous artists and directors in the theatrical, musical & performing arts field and as production manager and art director in the film, TV and commercial film & advertising branch in Austria. 

> moves to Italy;
> 1984 – 87: works as stage & costume designer @ Teatro Delle Arti, Rome (also on tour throughout Italy with various stage productions)
> 1986: Rome-based freelance creative & art director, executive and line producer in Italy for some of the principle advertising agencies and production companies from, above all, Japan, Northern Europe & US in the commercial film, industrial & institutional film production field.
> founds “Artifex” in 1987, company of which Edwin is the MD up to date.

 

In his work as Producer, Production Manager, Art Director, Art & Props Buyer, Costume Coordinator and Special Events Creative Director and Director, Edwin continues his activity in and from Italy as Creative Consultant and Coordinator for the “major” film production companies world-wide, among others, for example: Dreamworks, Hallmark, RHI, Spyglass & HBO;

Edwin speaks German, Italian & French fluently;
As an artist, at the moment he is not represented by an agency.

Edwin is married to Luisa and they have 3 daughters;
the family is resident in Rome since 1985 with a country refuge in Umbria.
